What started as one birthday wish grew into a Luzerne County tradition — because the kids who "age out" of holiday help still deserve a Christmas morning too.
We spent a 30th birthday feeding over 300 people in New York after Hurricane Sandy hit — the first spark of a lifelong habit of showing up for people.
We helped a family of twins have a complete Christmas — dinner included.
After a hard year, help was there for our family — but the cut-off for assistance was age 12. Our kids were older. The question stuck: don't teens deserve something too?
Nov 2017 — We committed to giving at least one gift to 5 boys and 5 girls over 13. Talking through the plan, a young volunteer named Lily earned her Scout badge helping out — then asked to stay on the following year, badge or not. She's been our official partner ever since.
With everyone's donations, we delivered Christmas magic to 33 teens through two drop-off locations.
About six drop-off locations and personal donations later, we reached 100 teens.
Six public drop-off locations, four private in-house collections, and countless personal donations added up to Christmas magic for 82 families — 137 teens.
Aug 2020 — We officially became Gifts For Teens to better reflect our mission. Dec 2020 — Despite COVID and a shift to mail-in applications, we reached just over 90 teens.
Even through continued challenges, our community came through — again over 100 teens received Christmas magic.
We expanded our drop-off location area and provided Christmas magic to 95 teens this year.
